I can still remember seeing the episode of the technology programme Tomorrow’s World in the UK when they revealed the CD to the nation back in the early 80s.

They demonstrated its superior durability to vinyl by sitting a hot mug of coffee on it, and - I’m fairly certain - spreading jam on it, before wiping it clean and inserting it in the player.

I could just fancy some CDs with jam now.

The CD was indeed featured on Tomorrow's World.

However, I think that the item where jam was spread on a CD was actually on BBC Breakfast news.

That makes greater contextual sense. Such days of innocence, when Frank Bough snorting a line of coke was a national scandal, prompting questions in the House.

Yes, and here is the clip https://youtu.be/112oO3brDJo?si=LEfJpqT3RFQllbna

I wonder if Frank then used that CD case to chop out a fat white line? They were very useful for that.

(Ahem, or so I am told...)

I just read this article, and saw the creation of the 15mm center hole and immediately ran to my closet to find one of those 10 cent coins from my collection, i knew i had one from when I was a kid. Dropped it right into the center of a CD, and learned just how that size was determined. Thank you so much for teaching me something new, I am now showing everyone in my family how the coin fits perfectly, they don't care but I do! I love you guys!!!
