My first ever CD player, and, in those days, the Sony employee discount was fantastic! Was on a Sony work trip to tour the Atsugi plant while my CDP-101 was on order, and bought my first two CDs at a shop in Akihabara, both by Billy Joel.

The downside was that mastering refinement had a long way to go. I treasure those CDs as my first, but not the best.

The brick wall filters also induced ringing artefacts which, in combination with the relatively poor time-domain resolution of the 44.1KHz sampling rate, contributed significantly to the degraded sound quality when compared to an analogue source such as vinyl, with it's molecular level resolution.
